Article reflecting upon the role that graphic design plays in the climate emergency
Challenge
This article prompted a formal admission to myself that I was finally totally disillusioned with the vast majority of the marketing world.
I went to Ad-Free Cities’ Beyond Consumerism Conference 2022 which was a big inspiration for this article. Thoughts I’d had at the back of my mind throughout my whole career came to the surface. I realised that commiting to not working for the big polluters isn’t enough. I began to see how easy it is for designers, and the creative industries in general, to fall into the trap of creating greenwash in the pursuit of doing “impact” work.
